Sense of Community
More than a destination at the end of the day, a community is a place you want to call home and where you feel at home. This sense of belonging does not come automatically! Focusing attention on building a strong sense of community makes governance and operations less problematic because homeowners are happy with their quality-of-life. Four Seasons is already promoting community in a number of ways.
Established standing committees have meaningful responsibilities and clear charters. With defined roles and responsibilities homeowners are more apt to participate and encourage their neighbors to join a committee also. As more people participate, the energy of the group increases and spreads throughout the community.
Residents have become known for their generosity and support of their neighbors, offering assistance with shopping, chauffeuring, house sitting, and even help connecting to the internet. Many also participate in local non-profit events and fund raisers. Doing something for someone else, or for a cause that is bigger than you, is one of the best ways to build a sense of community. People build bonds with one another as they serve the greater good. They realize that they have a great deal in common and they celebrate their differences.
Sponsoring social events is another way to get residents involved in the community. Potluck dinners, theme events, Food Trucks, corn hole tournaments are all opportunities for neighbors to get to know each other.
As the community grows, with the addition of homes in Phase 2, the challenge will be to maintain and enhance existing programs so that new homeowners feel like they are a part of the community from day one.
